Three Wildcats to compete in historic indoor track and field event

Three Wildcats will compete on Saturday in the 106th annual Millrose Games at The Armory in New York, N.Y.

Senior high jumper Brigetta Barrett, senior hurdler Georganne Moline, and junior distance runner Lawi Lalang will compete in what is known as the most historic indoor track and field event in the world.

They will not only compete against other top collegiate athletes, but against other Olympians and professional runners as well.

In the past two meets, Moline has set school records in the 400-meter. Her time of 52.27 set at the Don Kirby Invite last weekend was not only a school record and a personal best, but is the second best collegiate time this year and No. 11 in the world.

Moline said she’s not worried about competing about other Olympians this weekend, and is looking to have a good experience at the Millrose Games.

“When I think about it, I am one of those girls. I went to the Olympics as well,” Moline said. “I need to give myself more credit and know that I can do it instead of separating myself. I’m more excited than intimidated.”

Barrett will be competing against five other athletes in the women’s high jump. Her mark of 6-feet-3.25-inches at the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 25 holds the spot of the No. 2 collegiate mark in the country this year, and the No. 10 clearance in the world.

At the Millrose Games last year, Lalang competed in the 5,000-meter race where his time of 13:08.28 set a collegiate record. This year, he will compete in the men’s mile, a race he has yet to compete in this season. Although Lalang will compete in a different event this year, Lalang said he is excited and has been anticipating this competition.

“First of all it’s going to be a fast race,” Lalang said. “Secondly, I’ll be running with professional guys and that will be different than collegiate runners. So it’ll be a big competition. This year is going to be different because I’m running at a higher speed than last year.”

The Millrose Games will be shown live on ESPN 3 beginning at 7 p.m. EST on Saturday. They will be shown again on ESPN from 8-10 p.m. EST on Sunday.
