UA grounds arborist crew members work on breaking down a tree after it fell in front of the Nugent building on Tuesday at around 10 a.m. The crew will have to return Wednesday to remove the remaining stub.

Bike valet services were closed down for a few hours after a tree fell across the area near the Nugent building early Tuesday morning.

Rick Street, the grounds crew chief for the UA, said they arrived at about 10 a.m. and should be done cleaning up by 2:30 p.m.

UAPD as well as Facilities Management were notified, before grounds services arrived for clean up.

The tree was knocked down by the wind and landed near the food stand near Nugent, according to Street.

Grounds services will return to the area Wednesday to remove the remaining tree stump which becomes a liability if it’s left there, Street said.

“It’s sad,” Street said. “Hopefully we’ll plant another one later on.”
