Women's golf finishes third in Chicago
After being ranked No. 10 in the recent golfstat.com poll, Arizona performed at the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Chicago and finished third in the two-day tournament hosted by Northwestern.
Sophomore Lindsey Weaver started off the tournament strong as Arizona’s top finisher on day one. She earned an individual medal with a score of 208 (-5). This led Weaver to obtain her best tournament score as a Wildcat so far.
Weaver said in a press release that she was pleased with her performance throughout the tournament.
“I think, individually, my rounds were pretty good,” Weaver said. “I got off to some rocky starts in the second and third rounds, but I was able to make some birdies and keep myself in contention the whole time. The course was in great condition, but got a little windy in the second and third rounds.”
Juniors Andrea Vilarasau and Kendall Prince both shared a six-way tie to finish in ninth place. Vilarasau shot rounds of 73, 69 and 74. Prince shot rounds of 69, 71 and 76.
In a five-way tie for 50th place, junior Manon Gidali finished with a score of 227 ( 14), with rounds of 78, 75 and 74.
Freshman Jessica Vasilic finished the tournament in a seven-way tie for 39th place, shooting rounds of 73, 70 and 78, which gave her a total score of 221 ( 8).
“As a team, we are a little disappointed with our third-place finish,” Weaver said after the final round of the tournament. “We struggled a little [Tuesday] in the final round, but we will definitely keep improving in the next few weeks so we can pull out a win in our next tournament in Wilmington.”
The team will have time to prepare before traveling to Wilmington, N.C., for the 12th annual Landfall Tradition, a three-day tournament starting on Oct. 25.
