FINAL: Arizona defeats UNLV 63-58

Arizona likely snagged the No. 1 spot in the country Saturday after defeating UNLV 63-58.

After trailing 42-39 at the half, No. 2 Arizona (9-0) looked like it was getting back on track after Brandon Ashley scored two and T.J. McConnell stole the ball for a layup to take back the Arizona lead. The Wildcats went on a 6-0 run, but UNLV (3-4) continued to fight hard.

The Runnin’ Rebels shot 46 percent for the game.

It was hard to predict the outcome of the game as it continued to be back and forth, with the lead changing 18 times.

UNLV’s junior guard Bryce Dejean-Jones led the team with 16 points and two rebounds.

Arizona’s 3-point percentage was only 19, compared to UNLV’s 29.

Arizona sophomore center Kaleb Tarczewski played one of his better games, shooting 6-for-9 and finishing with only one foul, much less than usual for the 7-footer. He finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Junior guard T.J. McConnell led the Wildcats with 13 points and seven rebounds, but no double-doubles were recorded for the team.

Arizona’s last No. 1 ranking was in March 2003.
