Swim hosts senior weekend
The Arizona swimming and diving teams are looking to bounce back against Texas after dropping a pair of dual meets last week against Stanford and Cal.
This weekend also marks the last time 17 seniors on the team will compete at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
“Our meets against Texas are always competitive,” said Sam Rowan, senior individual medley swimmer. “There will be a lot of honest racing — a lot of people going head-to-head. It should be fun.”
The dual meet will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and continue at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Admission is free on both days.
Senior Ashley J. Evans swims the 200 yard Butterfly. Evans will compete in senior weekend on Friday and Saturday.
As the season approaches its home stretch, many swimmers are engaged in intense training regimens to prepare for the NCAA Championships. That training has made some of the swimmers “race rusty,” interim head coach Rick DeMont said.
“At this point in our season, we’re kind of flat,” DeMont said.
DeMont also said that for swimmers who have already qualified for the NCAA Championships, the meet is more about “executing race plans” than recording a personal best time.
Senior sprinter Grace Finnegan said that she’s looking forward to the meet because it’s an opportunity to rebound from last week’s losses, and it’s the last time she will ever race in what has become a very familiar pool.
“I’ve had an amazing four-year experience here,” Finnegan said. “The team has been through a lot over the last four years, but I really wouldn’t change it for anything.”
