Arizona track and field weekend preview



Arizona men’s and women’s track and field teams will be split up among two meets this weekend.

A portion of the Wildcats will be competing in New York City in the Armory Collegiate Invitational. The other group of athletes will compete in the Mountain T’s Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.

In New York, Arizona will compete against Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson, Kansas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Syracuse and Wisconsin, among others.

Junior distance runner Sam Macaluso is from New Jersey, and senior long jumper Amber Passalaqua is a New York native; both transferred to Arizona from Syracuse.

For the women’s side in New York, senior Alyssa Hasslen and junior Baillie Gibson will compete in the championship section of the shot put. Pentathlete Passalaqua will compete in the college section of the women’s long jump.

For the men’s team on Friday, freshman Avery Mickens will lead off the day by competing in the long jump. Freshmen Aaron Castle and Jordan Young are set to compete in the championship section of the shot put.

Senior Nick Ross is entered in the championship section of the long jump and high jump. Freshman Miles Parish will run in the preliminary round (championship section) of the 400-meter sprint.

Back in the southwest at the Mountain T’s Invitational, the Wildcats will have sophomore Harrison Ivie and junior Pau Tonnesen competing in the heptathlon. Sophomore Dillon Manzanares will compete in the men’s pole vault. Sophomore Ali Rodseth will triple jump, while freshmen Audrey Muir and Lisanne Hagens will high jump.

On the track, James Berkley, Charles Hodges, Bryce Houston and John Kane will compete in the 200-meter dash. Alex Gilbert, Jasmin Pratt and Lizzie Smith will run in the women’s 200-meter sprint.
