Gymcats finish third at the Metroplex Challenge
The No. 17 Arizona Gymcats finished third with a score of 195.625 in its first quad meet of the season against No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 LSU and Kentucky at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday.
The Gymcats started on balance beam, where they earned a score of 48.925. Sophomore Jessie Sisler led the Gymcats with a career-high score of 9.875 after missing the last three meets because of an injury. Junior Amber Wobma and sophomore Shelby Edwards followed with twin scores of 9.800, followed by junior Allison Flores with 9.775 and senior Shana Sangston with 9.675.
For the second rotation, Arizona moved to the floor, where its total score was a 48.750. Flores led with a 9.825, followed by Sangston, Wobma and freshman Mackenzie Valentin, all with scores of 9.775. Freshman Selynna Felix-Terrazas added a 9.600.
Arizona then moved to vault, where it finished with a 48.850. Wobma led with a 9.825, followed by Sangston with a 9.775. Flores and Valentin both scored a 9.750, and junior Kristin Klarenbach added a 9.725.

The Gymcats entered their final rotation on the uneven bars with a running score of 146.500. The uneven bars was their best event of the night, as they earned a 49.100. Freshman Krysten Howard led with a 9.875, followed by Flores with 9.825, Felix-Terrazas with 9.800 and freshman Gabby Laub with 9.750, to bring Arizona’s total score for the night to a 195.625.
No. 2 Oklahoma took home first place with a score of 198.175, followed by No. 3 LSU with 197.875, Arizona with 195.625, and then Kentucky with a score of 194.800. Flores was the only all-around competitor for the Gymcats for the second consecutive week. She earned a 39.175, which was good enough for third place in the all-around.
Arizona will next compete against rival ASU in Tempe on Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. MST.
