Police Beat: March 14

Keyed up

A UA student had her SUV vandalized in the Tyndall Avenue Parking Garage on March 9.

Upon returning to the garage after parking there overnight, she noticed a note on her windshield. It read, “You are taking up 2 parking spaces careless.” The student also noticed that her automobile had also been keyed.

There were scratches on the car that stretched across the front hood and along the entire right side, from the passenger door to the rear panel.

The student told University of Arizona Police Department officers that she would like to press charges if the vandal is caught.

Hole in the wall

A fence was vandalized on Helen Street on March 10.

A UAPD officer noticed a vandalized fence during his patrol along Helen Street. Upon a closer inspection, the officer observed that several wooden boards had been removed from the fence and were then broken.

Next to the pile of broken boards, the officer found an empty can of Natural Light beer. The officer observed that the boards had been pulled away to create an opening large enough for a person to fit through.

The vandal was not found.

“Way of life”

A student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana in Maricopa Residence Hall on March 10.

A UAPD officer responded to reports of a marijuana odor in Maricopa. Upon approaching the room suspected to be the source of the smell, the officer noticed a strong odor of aerosol air freshener.

The officer knocked at the door and identified himself. The resident took approximately five minutes to open door. She allowed the officer to enter her room, where he observed pipes containing what appeared to be marijuana residue.

The student said she had been smoking marijuana and proclaimed that is was a “way of life” for her. She also presented the officer with a box of paraphernalia, including a scale, a baggy and a “shaker.” The student also handed over what appeared to be a jar containing marijuana.

The officer informed the student that smoking marijuana on campus is illegal. She was diverted to the Dean of Students Office and tested positive for marijuana use.
