    Police Beat: March 27

    Fast and furious family man

A non-UA affiliated man was arrested and booked into Pima County Jail after a car chase with police at 12:45 p.m. on March 21.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was monitoring the intersection of Speedway Boulevard and Adams Street when he noticed a white Cadillac going 11 miles over the speed limit.

The officer pulled out and followed the vehicle. The Cadillac sped up and headed northbound onto Campbell Avenue, so the officer turned on the emergency lights.

The Cadillac then turned into a private driveway on Campbell Avenue, drove through an alleyway and exited back onto the roadway. Finally, the Cadillac turned eastbound onto Adams Street, nearly hitting a car, entering Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School’s parking lot and parking in a handicap spot.

The driver then got out of his car and fled on foot toward University of Arizona Medical Center. He was pursued and detained by police at Martin Avenue and Mabel Street. The man admitted to stealing the car, which was later found to be his children’s grandmother’s car. However, she said she didn’t want to press charges for the theft.

During the foot pursuit, an officer found three girls inside the car, at least two of whom were in car seats. The girls were crying and said they didn’t know why the man had left the car. Police later discovered his license was suspended.

Tucson Wrecker impounded the car. The man, who said he felt “ashamed” for endangering his family, was arrested for unlawful flight from law enforcement and endangerment, and booked into Pima County Jail.

    Park ‘n’ toke

Two men were arrested by UAPD after being cited for possessing 88.9 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on top of Sixth Street Parking Garage at 1:33 a.m. on March 19.

UAPD officers noticed the men after spotting their car on the top floor of the garage, which is usually vacant. As they approached the car, the officers saw there were two men inside.

The men got out of their car as the officers got close, releasing a strong odor of marijuana. Police noted this as they identified both males by their CatCards.

Due to the suspicious smell, officers searched the car. The car contained large and small glass jars, in addition to prescription pill containers that contained a combined 88.9 grams of marijuana, police found after weighing the possessions at UAPD station.

Photos of the car and the containers were submitted into evidence, in addition to the marijuana, and both men were transported to Pima County Jail for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
