Track and field heads to NCAA Indoor Championships

Arizona track and field will go for national titles at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

It is Arizona’s third time competing at the Albuquerque Convention Center this season.

For the No. 5 men’s team senior and seven-time NCAA champion Lawi Lalang will compete in the mile, 3K and 5K. Lalang holds the collegiate record in 5K and mile.

Senior Nick Ross will go for another title in the high jump, after winning the 2012 NCAA championship. Ross owns the best jump in the country this year.

Freshman Jordan Young will compete in the weight throw. He has the seventh best throw in the country this year.

Juniors Jovon Cunningham (triple jump) and Pau Tonnesen (heptathlon) will be making their NCAA Indoor Championships debuts.

For the women, senior Shapri Romero will compete in the 400-meter sprint. She owns the 15th best time in the country this year.

Sophomore Nnenya Hailey (60-meter hurdles) also holds the No. 15 time her event. She transferred from Clemson.

Senior Alyssa Hasslen, who owns the seventh best throw in the country this year, will compete in the shot put.

ESPN3.com broadcast the meet on Friday beginning at 5:55 p.m. and on Saturday at 5:50 p.m. ESPNU will broadcast it on March 22 at 3:30 p.m.
