Arizona track and field athletes win honors again

Members of the Arizona men’s and women’s track and field teams received honors from the Pac-12 Conference on Tuesday. Seniors Nick Ross and Julie Labonté were named Pac-12 Field Athletes of the Week.

This is the second time Labonté has claimed the Pac-12 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week in the past three weeks. In her most recent competition, Labonté threw 57-1 (17.40m) in the shot put and holds the No. 3 toss in the country this year and No. 2 in the west region.

Ross was named Pac-12 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the high jump for the second-straight week at the Jim Click Shootout. Most recently, Ross cleared 7-4.5 (2.25m) in the men’s high jump, earning the No. 2 mark in the country this year.

The Arizona men fell two spots, to No. 19, while the women’s team climbed one spot to No. 10 in the country ranked by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association. Next up for the Wildcats will be two meets for the Mt. SAC Relays and the LSU Alumni Gold Classic.
