Football Guide: Arizona football schedule breakdown

Game 1-UNLV

Arizona Stadium, Tucson
Game Day: Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m.
2013 Record: 7-6
Key Players: WR Devante Davis, QB Nick Sherry, RB Shaquille Murray-Lawrence
Quick Hit: UNLV is aiming for back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1983-84, according to Bleacher Report. Head coach Bobby Hauck is entering his fifth season at UNLV and is hoping for another postseason run after going to a bowl game last season. With WR Devante Davis on their heels, the Arizona cornerbacks better get prepared to stop this beast after his 87 catches and 14 touchdowns last season.
Last Meeting: Arizona, 58-13 (Las Vegas, 2013)
All-Time Series: Arizona, 2-0

_Game 2-UTSA _

Alamodome, San Antonio
Game Day: Sep. 4, 5 p.m.
2013 Record: 7-5
Key Players: S Triston Wade, OT Josh Walker, RB David Glasco II
Quick Hit: UTSA is returning nine offensive and 10 defensive players and are now officially eligible for postseason play. The team has to now replace QB Eric Soza, but UTSA brings powerhouse running back David Glasco II to the field. Although UTSA may force itself to fight for the Conference USA title, it should be no problem for speedy Arizona.
Last Meeting: Arizona 38-13 (Tucson, 2013)
All-Time Series: Arizona, 1-0

Game 3-Nevada

Arizona Stadium, Tucson
Game Day: Sep. 13, 8 p.m.
2013 Record: 4-8
Key Players: DE Brock Hekking, WR Richy Turner, QB Cody Fajardo
Quick Hit: Nevada will be dangerous this season with dual-threat QB Cody Fajardo returning for action. But Nevada struggled toward the end of last season and with head coach Brian Polian entering just his second season, Arizona should expect an epic battle similar to Nevada’s performance in the 2012 New Mexico Bowl.
Last Meeting: Arizona 49-48 (Albuquerque, 2012)
All-Time Series: Arizona 2-1-1

Game 4-California

Arizona Stadium, Tucson
Game Day: Sep. 20, TBA
2013 Record: 1-11
Key Players: QB Jared Goff, WR Chris Harper, DE Brennan Scarlett
Quick Hit: Arizona will open Pac-12 play at home this season with a hopefully easy defeat of a brutal California team that went just 1-11 last season. Unless head coach Sonny Dykes is able to pull off a “miracle,” Arizona should keep its head in the clear and defeat the Golden Bears.
Last Meeting: Arizona 33-28 (Berkeley, 2013)
All-Time Series: Arizona 15-14-2

_Game 5-Oregon _

Autzen Stadium, Eugene
Game Day: Oct. 2, 7:30 p.m.
2013 Record: 11-2
Key Players: QB Marcus Mariota, RB Byron Marshall, CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
Quick Hit: After Arizona’s shocking defeat of Oregon at home last season, Oregon will try to get some revenge at home against the UA. Arizona cornerbacks better be scared of the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy, QB Marcus Mariota, and the powerhouse offense that everybody around the country fears.
Last Meeting: Arizona 42-16 (Tucson, 2013)
_All-Time Series: Oregon 24-15

Game 6-USC

Arizona Stadium, Tucson
Game Day: Oct. 11, TBA
2013 Record: 10-4
Key Players: DL Leonard Williams, WR Nelson Agholor, LB Hayes Pullard
Quick Hit: Entering his first season as USC head coach, Steve Sarkisian should have a relatively easy transition with a stellar coaching staff behind him. However, the main problem for the Trojans will be how to improve their 61st-ranked offense from last season. Arizona will have to battle hard against USC, and if the defense can get to QB Cody Kessler, the UA should have no problem.
Last Meeting: USC 38-31 (Los Angeles, 2013)
All-Time Series: USC 29-8

Game 7-Washington State

Martin Stadium, Pullman
Game Day: Oct. 25, TBA
2013 Record: 6-7
Key Players: QB Connor Halliday, DL Xavier Cooper, WR Gabe Marks
Quick Hit: Washington State head coach Mike Leach and Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez have a lot in common. They are both entering their third year at head coach for their respective teams and have improved recruiting exponentially at their schools. After Arizona’s incredibly disappointing loss to the Cougars last season, the UA will come for revenge on Washington State’s home field.
Last Meeting: Washington State 24-17 (Tucson, 2013)
All-Time Series: Arizona 25-14

Game 8-UCLA

Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena
Game Day: Nov. 1, TBA
2013 Record: 10-3
Key Players: LB Myles Jack, OL Alex Redmond, LB Eric Kendricks
Quick Hit: Many have predicted the UCLA Bruins to go all the way to the National Championship this season with star QB Brett Hundley. But first, the UA will be in their path for the Pac-12 title this season. Nonetheless, playing on the road in Pasadena will be no easy feat for Arizona.
Last Meeting: UCLA 31-26 (Tucson, 2013)
All-Time Series: UCLA 21-15-2

Game 9-Colorado

Arizona Stadium, Tucson
Game Day: Nov. 8, TBA
2013 Record: 4-8
Key Players: ILB Addison Gillam, WR Paul Richardson, QB Sefo Liufau
Quick Hit: After two straight road games against tough opponents, the UA will go up against a struggling Colorado, which went just 4-8 last season. However, the true test will be if Arizona can avoid the letdown it had last season on the road. Taking care of the Buffaloes should be quick.
Last Meeting: Arizona 44-20 (Boulder, 2013)
All-Time Series: Colorado 13-3

Game 10-Washington

Arizona Stadium, Tucson
Game Day: Nov. 15, TBA
2013 Record: 9-4
Key Players: LB Shaq Thompson, DL Danny Shelton, DL Hau’oli Kikaha
Quick Hit: Washington loses its high profile offense in QB Keith Price and RB Bishop Sankey but returns with a new head coach Chris Petersen. Petersen has already suspended multiple players, including the planned QB Cyler Miles. Washington and Arizona are the only teams in the Pac-12 with the uncertainty at quarterback, so this matchup will surely be a test.
Last Meeting: Washington 31-13 (Seattle, 2013)
All-Time Series: Washington 19-10-1

Game 11-Utah

Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City
Game Day: Nov. 22, TBA
2013 Record: 5-7
Key Players: WR Dres Anderson, S Brian Blechen, WR Kenneth Scott
Quick Hit: The toughest test for the Wildcats will be in this matchup, since they will be unable to look forward to their Arizona State matchup because of the Utah Utes. Utah should be improved this season and will be a difficult matchup for the UA, playing in difficult and freezing conditions.
Last Meeting: Arizona 35-24 (Tucson, 2013)
All-Time Series: Utah 20-17-2

Game 12-Arizona State

Arizona Stadium, Tucson
Game Day: Nov. 28, 1:30 p.m.
2013 Record: 10-4
Key Players: QB Taylor Kelly, FS Damarious Randall, RB D.J. Foster
Quick Hit: This will be the true test for Arizona. ASU has defeated the UA twice since both head coaches took over, and Arizona must stop the trend and fast. Arizona fans have a bitter taste in their mouths after last season’s Territorial Cup matchup, and ASU returns just two starters on defense. This is a must-win for Arizona.
Last Meeting: Arizona State 58-21 (Tempe, 2013)
All-Time Series: Arizona 47-39-1
