Jointin’ to Cheba Hut

A non-UA affiliated man was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer pulled over a vehicle on Campbell Avenue and Adams Street around 12:15 p.m. after noticing that the car did not have its rear lights on. When the officer got behind the vehicle, he could immediately smell a strong marijuana odor.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and made contact with the driver and two passengers. The officer asked the driver if he knew anything about the odor, and he said he did. The officer then read him his Miranda rights.

The driver said that he and another passenger had been smoking a joint in the car while on their way to Cheba Hut for lunch. He also said he had an old bag of marijuana in the car that he forgot about.

While conducting a vehicle search, the officer found a joint jammed between the console and the front passenger seat, three multicolored glass smoking pipes with marijuana residue and several bags that contained shake. The officer also found a green lighter that said “STONER” on it.

While the passengers denied any knowledge of the marijuana in the car, the driver was cited and released on the scene for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A non-UA affiliated man was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear.

The man was found sleeping on the sidewalk on Campbell Avenue.

When the UAPD officer woke the man up, the man said, “I can’t believe you found me. I know all the little nooks and crannies out here where you can sleep and not be found.”

According to the officer, it was apparent that the man was extremely intoxicated due to the odor of intoxicant on his breath, his slurred speech, his bloodshot eyes and his depressed motor skills.

While performing a records check, the officer saw that he had an outstanding warrant through the Tucson Police Department; the man was then arrested.

During a search of the man’s backpack, the officer found a package of rolling papers and marijuana. The officer read him his Miranda rights, which the man stated he understood.

When the officer questioned the man about the marijuana, he said he didn’t know it was in there. However, when asked about the rolling papers, he replied, “Come on. Do you really think I’m going to talk to you about this stuff? We’re done. Just take me to jail.”

The man was arrested and booked into Pima County Jail.
