Tucson Police Department and Tucson Fire Department respond to the scene of an abandoned building fire on Fourth Avenue. Witnesses said it took firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the blaze.

An abandoned building on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Ninth Street caught fire early Tuesday morning, which was quickly put out by emergency responders.

Tucson Police Department and Tucson Fire Department responded to the blaze around midnight and put out the fire by 12:20 a.m. Thick smoke was visible from the UA campus.

No one from TFD or TPD could be reached for comment at the time of publication.

Stephanie Osrio, a Tucson resident, said she was driving home when she saw smoke from the fire.

“[The building] kind of burst into flames pretty quick,” Osrio said.

She estimated it took crews about 20 minutes to put out the blaze.
