Police Beat: November 17

Manzi-Mo and Mary Jane

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana from the Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall on Nov. 1.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was dispatched to the residence hall around 10:45 p.m. in reference to an odor of marijuana.

The residence assistant on duty told the officer the smell was coming somewhere from the fifth floor of the hall.

The officer could smell the faint odor when he entered the fifth floor, and he found the room where the smell was coming from.

The officer asked if he could enter the room, and when the student gave the officer permission to enter, the officer noticed two other men in the room as well.

The officer told them all that he was there because he could smell marijuana coming from the room and said the process would go a lot smoother if they just handed it over.

The student, who was also the room’s resident, went over to his backpack and pulled out a black pill-shaped container. He told the officer that the backpack contained marijuana and Swisher Sweets, which belonged to him.

The substance weighed 3.5 grams and tested positive for marijuana.

’Cause you know I’d walk 3000 miles…

Two UA students were arrested for minor in bodily possession of alcohol on Nov. 1.

A UAPD officer was patrolling near the intersection of Park Avenue and Fourth Street when he saw a male student and a female student standing on the sidewalk.

The female student was slumped against the male student, and he appeared to be holding her up.

The officer approached the two students and asked if the girl was OK. The officer observed that both students had red, bloodshot, watery eyes and both smelled of intoxicants.

The male student said he had been drinking at an off-campus house party earlier that evening. He presented his identification card, which was a valid California driver’s license.

However, when he was putting his driver’s license back in his pocket, another identification card fell out, which was a Connecticut driver’s license, bearing the student’s name with a birthdate that made him 21 years of age.

He told the officer he bought the fake ID for $90 from a high school friend.

The female student said she consumed alcohol in the Coronado Residence Hall but would not say where in the dorm or what kind of alcohol. The officer noticed her speech was very slurred and that she could barely stand. She eventually had to sit down to keep from falling over.

Both students were arrested and released on the scene for minor in bodily possession, while the student with the fake identification was also cited for possession of a fictitious out-of-state driver’s license.
