Spring into fraternity recruitment next semester

The Interfraternity Council Spring 2015 Recruitment, a process for collegiate men to join one of 17 UA-recognized fraternities, will take place from Jan. 25-31.

The deadline for interested participants to register for spring recruitment is Jan. 24 at 11:59 p.m. If the deadline is not met, participants cannot receive a bid on bid day.

There is also a $50 registration fee for all potential new members in spring recruitment.

The Go Greek Informational Fair for interested recruitment prospects will take place on Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Memorial Center Grand Ballroom.

Spring recruitment week for the IFC will begin on Jan. 25 with a mandatory informational meeting. A combination of open and invite-only chapter events will be held in the evenings of Jan. 26-29. Preference dinners will be held on Jan. 30, and on Bid Day — when men will receive initiation bids from their respective fraternities — will be Jan. 31.

Brian Kewin, president of the IFC, said all IFC-affiliated chapters are registered to participate in the Spring 2015 Recruitment in an email.

Kewin said the IFC spring recruitment process is informal, meaning potential new members have the option to pick any house they please, compared to in the fall, when everyone had the opportunity to visit each IFC chapter.

Kewin also said the IFC is expecting 400-500 participants during the spring 2015 recruitment process.

The Panhellenic council will also hold a spring 2015 recruitment.

Allie Dutson, vice president of membership for the Panhellenic Council, said the spring recruitment process is usually very informal when compared to fall recruitment, but this year, it will follow a similar structure to past spring recruitments at the UA.

“If someone is interested [in Panhellenic spring 2015 recruitment] they can either attend the Go Greek [Information] Session, which is in the spring,” Dutson said, “or sometimes they’ll email me, and I will give their contact info to the chapters that do decide they are participating.”

She said chapters decide individually if they want to participate in spring recruitment or not and then they notify the office of Fraternity and Sorority Programs by late December or early January.
