Arizona men’s basketball

Sean Miller’s group lost to ASU earlier this month and rebounded quite nicely by defeating Washington 86-62 on Friday and Washington State 86-59 on Sunday. Despite being shorthanded, Arizona dominated both matchups in the way most UA fans expect the team to. After taking down the Washington schools, Arizona stayed at No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. All in all, it was a good week for the fighting Sean Millers.

Kentucky men’s basketball

No. 1 Kentucky just keeps finding ways to look down and out before a crazy comeback in the last couple minutes of games to reach a perfect 25-0 on the season. LSU had John Calipari’s group on the ropes in Baton Rouge, La., but the Wildcats stepped up over the last two minutes of that game. Stud freshman Karl Anthony-Towns made a couple huge buckets, and Kentucky is still the unanimous No. 1 in the nation. Can anyone take down Big Blue Nation? 

Former New York Yankees

The New York Yankees announced on Monday that former Yankees Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada and Bernie Williams will have their jerseys retired. Not to mention, former Yankee Willie Randolph is getting a plaque in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium. Pettitte, Posada and Williams are the 18th, 19th and 20th former Yankees to be honored with a retired jersey. It’s safe to say it was a good day to be a Yankee.

Arizona women’s basketball

Just when Niya Butts’ team looks to be on the upswing, more losses rained down on Arizona’s parade. Fresh off an upset of women’s basketball powerhouse Stanford, the Wildcats put together back-to-back double-digit losses on the road against the Oregon schools. It’s past the point where this team can’t catch a break; this is a normal occurrence now. To say Butts is on the hot seat might be too kind.

Brandon Bostick

The Green Bay Packers announced on Monday that backup tight end Brandon Bostick was released. Why should you care? Bostick was the player who let the onside kick bobble through his hands against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game. Seattle went on to score after that and eventually won the right to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Bostick couldn’t catch a break then and didn’t catch a break now, either. Guess the moral of the story is Bostick can’t catch. Too soon?

Amar’e Stoudemire

There once was a time where Amar’e Stoudemire looked to be the future of the New York Knicks franchise. The Knicks announced on Sunday that the organization has waived the often injured power forward. Stoudemire has fallen quite a long way since his days as a Phoenix Sun. While a return to Phoenix was rumored, STAT is likely headed to a title contender for the rest of this season; with the Dallas Mavericks being the apparent front runner to land the big man. If only he could take Phoenix’s storied medical staff with him.
