Stay away from me

Two UA students were involved in an assault at the Student Union Memorial Center on Feb. 12 at 1:50 p.m. 

The assaulted student told police that he was walking north through the breezeway between the student union and the UA Bookstore when another student pushed him from the back of his right shoulder, causing him to lose balance.

When the student recovered from the lapse of balance, he heard the pusher threaten him. After that, they both walked in opposite directions. 

The assaulted sent the assaulter a text message saying, “Leave me alone. I have friends that will protect me.”

“Your friends are useless,” the assaulter replied.

The student attacked also told police he was afraid to walk around campus or attend class because he doesn’t know what the attacker “may do” next.

He also claimed that his girlfriend and the attacker’s girlfriend do not get along, either. The women used to be roommates, but a problem occurred that resulted in tension between all four individuals.

The officer involved in the case went to the two women and asked if either of them were present when the assaulted student was pushed, and they both said no. They also spoke of the attacker in a negative way, saying he was getting into a lot of trouble with UAPD for possessing alcohol. 

Later, the officer offered a chance for the assaulted student to press charges, and he accepted. However, once he knew the assaulter would have to be notified, he changed his mind. The student also erased all of the text messages between the two individuals and requested a new residence.

The UAPD officer went to Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall to speak with the attacker. He was sleeping when the officer arrived. He was asked if there was an encounter between him and another student near the student union, and he said “no” with a confused look on his face. He stated that he had not seen the other UA student since November, and he has no interest in contacting him. He also showed the officer a text he got from the student that said, “Got you a bid from Delta Tau Delta fraternity.”

The man attacked was confronted by the officer about his text message to the attacker. He said the message was intended to keep the attacker from “doing something” to him. He was advised not to send anymore messages to him and not to act because of the issues between the two women.

No sleeping allowed

Two individuals were found at the west side of the University Services building on Feb. 12 at 6:10 p.m.

When the officers arrived, the men were underneath a couple of trees sleeping with blankets over them. A shopping cart next to them was full of items, and trash was scattered around the area.

An officer spoke to one non-UA-affiliated man, who informed him he had a warrant for consumption of spirituous liquor in a public place. The other individual did not appear to have any active warrants, but they were both warned about trespassing onto UA property for sleeping purposes.

The man without any warrants was released and left with the shopping cart. The other man was arrested and taken to Pima County Jail and booked for his confirmed Pima Community College failure to comply warrant.
