Police Beat: Valentine’s Day Classics

“Don’t tell them anything”

Two UA students were arrested in front of Coronado Residence Hall on Feb. 14, 2014.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers were in the area of Park Student Union when one officer observed two women exit a vehicle in front of Coronado. One women fell as they walked to the door.

The woman attempted to get back up. However, she fell again. Her companion offered assistance but she was also stumbling.

The officers had the women sit on a nearby wall before conducting a welfare check.

The officer noted that both had red, watery, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

After the officers identified both of the women, one of them continued to tell the other, “Don’t tell them anything.” The officer had the other officer on the scene separate the two.

The officers seperated the two women noting that one remained argumentative throughout the conversation. “Don’t tell them anything,” she repeated.

The officer could detect a strong smell of intoxicants coming from the woman’s breath.

Upon informing the woman the reason for making contact, she became defensive, and without being pressed, stated that she was not drunk.

The officer asked her if she would submit to a breath test to show she did not consume alcohol, and she said that she would not. She refused to provide any information that was not her name or date of birth.

She did, however, keep asking to speak with her father. The officer informed her that she was an adult and did not need her father. However, she could speak with him once the investigation was over.

The officer cited the woman for minor in possession in body. Both women had code of conducts completed and forwarded to the Dean of Students Office.

Beer Down

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of alcohol on Feb. 14, 2014.

A UAPD officer arrived on the scene and met with the community director of Coconino Residence Hall in regards to a note he received from his first floor resident assistant.

The note stated that two residents possessed alcohol. The community director said that neither of the residents had been a problem, and he did not recall them being investigated for anything.

The officer arrived at the room, knocked on the door and a man answered. The Community Director and the individual greeted each other. The officer introduced himself and asked if the roommate was home.

The individual said that the roommate was not home, but when asked if the officer could speak with him in regards to an issue that had been brought to UAPD’s attention he said, “Yeah, sure. Come in.”

The officer informed the individual about what the note had said. The individual went into his closet and pulled out a box containing seven assorted beers, which he brought from home.

The individual also removed a red fuzzy box from under his bed. The box contained a 1.75-liter bottle of Kirkland brand vodka, a glass milk container labeled Adult Chocolate Milk, two 0.5 milliliter Malibu Rums, 99 Bananas, Macallan Scotch, Jägermeister, Captain Morgan, Belvedere Vodka, UV Vodka and 550 milliliter organic cider.

The officer informed the student that because he was forthcoming and cooperative about the items in his possession, he would divert him to the Dean of Students Office.
