Bike ruckus

A University of Arizona Police Department officer noticed a man riding a bicycle through a private parking lot looking into cars at Kappa Alpha Theta sorority house on Feb. 14 at 9:30 p.m.

The non-UA-affiliated man was standing near the bike racks of the sorority house and proceeded to begin wheeling a green, 21 speed bike with a basket on the front away from the rack when the officer pulled into the lot.

He told the officer he parked his girlfriend’s bike at that location in the morning before going to the hospital for a staph infection on his hand. He claimed to have parked the bike at this location because it was safer than the hospital. He was now there to pick up the bike.

The individual said he was homeless and living on the streets near Fort Lowell. The bike did not appear to be stolen in the officer’s investigation. There were no locks in the bike rack area.

The officer went to speak with a sorority member and she said the bike belonged to a girl who lived in the house. She said the bike is always secured to the bike rack. The sorority house mother came out and spoke to the officer, saying she did not want the man on the property again.

The man was cited and released for theft. He was served with a UA Exclusionary Order and photographed. He was told not to enter the sorority house’s property again.

The bike was placed into UAPD Property and Evidence. The house mother told the officer she would have the owner pick it up at the station.

Drunken walks

A UA student was observed swaying outside Posada San Pedro Residence Hall on Feb. 13 at 1:18 a.m.

Two UAPD officers were working a Residence Life deployment when they saw two men walking on the sidewalk in front of the residence hall. Once one man reached the door, he started scanning his iPhone over the CatCard reader to gain entrance into the building.

According to the report, the man had a strong smell of intoxicants coming from his breath and body. His eyes were also bloodshot and watery. While he spoke to the officer, his words came out slurred. The officer asked how much he had to drink, and he said he had four beers.

The two men said they were coming from an apartment at The Hub at Tucson. He and the officer took the drunken man to his room. The sober man said he would look after him for the rest of the night.

The officer told the student he would be diverted for minor in possession of spirituous liquor. A Dean of Students Office referral was completed for him.
