The UA women’s golf team finished in ninth place this weekend at the Stanford Intercollegiate tournament. The tournament was hosted by the University of Stanford and the Lady Cardinal repeated as champions. The Wildcats finished with a total team score of 882 (+30). The Cardinal finished at 847 (-5).

Coming off a first place finish in the Windy City Collegiate two weeks ago, the Wildcats started slow out of the gates on Sunday with 299 (+15) that left them in 11th place. The team played more consistently Monday and Tuesday posting 291 (+7) and 292 (+8) to finish overall at 30-over-par.

Sophomore Krystal Quihis and junior Wanasa Zhou led the way for the Wildcats finishing in ties for 30th and 33rd place. Quihis was the most reliable Wildcat this weekend posting scores of 74 (+3), 70 (-1) and 75 (+4) to finish at 6-over-par for the tournament.

Zhou had a much different path to her 33rd place finish. Starting with 74 (+3) and 78 (+7), Zhou found herself on the bottom half of the leaderboard. She responded Tuesday with an excellent performance shooting 68 (-3) to move her up to 33rd place at 7-over-parfor the tournament.

Senior Lindsey Weaver struggled to get her bearings throughout the tournament and finished in a tie for 46th place. Weaver started the tournament with 75 (+4), but struggled to get back to even par the next two days. Even with four birdies in her second round Monday, Weaver started slow with a bogey on the first and a double bogey on the third hole, finishing with 73 (+2). Weaver again bogeyed two of the first three holes Tuesday but played well down the stretch shooting 75 (+4) in the final round.

Coming off of her impressive second place finish two weeks ago in Illinois, junior Jessica Vasilic also tied for 46th place this weekend. Vasilic posted scores of 76 (+5), 73 (+2) and 74 (+3). Vasilic had her own struggles on the front nine throughout the three rounds, but played much more consistently after the turn posting four of her six birdies for the tournament on the back nine. Vasilic and Weaver seemed to have problems on the third hole of the course combining to bogey the hole five out of the six times they played it.

Freshman Gigi Stoll came in a tie for 77th place at the tournament finishing with a total score of 235 (+22). Stoll continues to see time as a freshman and is starting to play better. Stoll started the tournament with 83 (+12), but had two solid rounds to end the tournament. Stoll posted 75 (+4) on Monday and 77 (+6) on Tuesday.

The Wildcats now begin their preparations for the upcoming Pac-12 Preview that takes place Nov. 2 and 3 in Kona, Hawaii.
