Pac-12 Football Power Rankings: Territorial Cup

North

1. Stanford

After we thought the Cardinal had an easy road to the Pac-12 Conference Championship, they fall to Oregon, making the North race more interesting. Its playoff hopes and Christian McCaffrey’s Heisman Trophy hopes will have to wait until next year.

2. Oregon

With Oregon’s win at Stanford last week, one has to wonder how different the season would have gone with a healthy Vernon Adams. A win and Stanford loss put it in the Pac-12 Championship just like we all thought in the preseason, but not a month ago.

3. Washington State

The Cougars became the ninth Pac-12 team to crash the top 25 this season and that  shows how much parity the conference has. The Cougars get to cap off their season against Colorado, so they should head to their bowl game with momentum.

4. California

The Golden Bears are now bowl-eligible thanks to a tune-up game against Oregon State. If Arizona beats ASU, the Sun Devils have to beat Cal to be bowl-eligible so save your best for last California.

5. Washington

After losing 17-27 the Washington Huskies now need to win their next two games to become bowl-eligible. The same team that gave Arizona its biggest loss this season may not even make it to a bowl game.

6. Oregon State

Although they have lost every conference game this season, the Beavers are 2-1 in non-conference games. Maybe they should just go independent like Notre Dame and choose their own schedule.

South

1. USC

USC barely defeated the second-worst team in the conference and now they have a shot at winning the division. Facing off against Oregon, both teams have a shot to win their respective divisions because the Pac-12 makes no sense.

2. Utah

After ruining Utah’s senior night last season by beating them by 30, Arizona upped the ante this season by destroying the team’s chance at a playoff berth. Utah should probably just schedule Arizona in September to get that game over with.

3. UCLA

A win over Washington State would have been huge for UCLA’s South crown chances, but the Bruins lost a heartbreaker to Wazzu last week. The team can still win the division with its remaining matchups against USC and Utah, so I imagine it will win the first game and lose the second because the Pac-12 is weird this year.

4. Arizona

Arizona’s win over Utah was so surreal that there is no indication of how the Wildcats will do this week. Now they face ASU in the Territorial Cup and no outcome would surprise me.

5. ASU

All ASU has to do is beat Arizona in the Territorial Cup and they are bowl-eligible. After being Kirk Herbstreit’s sexy playoff pick in the preseason, they now have to fight just to make it to some bowl in Montana.

6. Colorado

At first, it looked like the team would upset USC ― then it started playing like the Colorado of old. The school would be at the top of the Pac-12 moral victory power rankings, however. Look on the bright side, Colorado.
