Jackets are the perfect go-to for throwing on something warm for an 8 a.m. class or just going out at night when it gets a little chillier. They make for the perfect spring outfit.

Most people think of the zip-up style when jackets come to mind, but the key aspect of a spring jacket is having a lighter fabric. Jacket style is not only limited to zip-up jackets, but also includes denim button-up jackets and cardigans. Oversized cardigans and light material jackets are great for the spring because Tucson has sunny days and cold winter nights.

“I would like wear a thin-thin, sweater-type thing,” said Hannah Burns, a sophomore studying special education and rehabilitation while picking up an army green cardigan off the racks at Collette Clothing. “A holey cardigan is my go-to.”

If the cardigan is not quite fitting, try a denim jacket or a flannel.

“You could wear a denim jacket anytime, it’s a nice spring go-to,” said Emeline Neau, an international development senior. “Flannels are also totally in right now. You could either wear it around your waist or as a shirt. It’s a nice detail to your outfit.”

When considering potential jacket pairings, it is always important to pay attention to colors. Spring colors gravitate toward lighter shades because of the season’s blooming flowers and overall warmth.

“A light, thin blend over some high-waisted jean shorts and a T-shirt or tank top. Knotting the tank top also is cute,” said Lauren Arnaud, a cosmetology sophomore.

Pastel colors seem to be in this season and are quite fitting for spring. Pastel color choices can include pink, purple, yellow or orange.

“I would stick to jacket colors like light pink, nude or black,” Burns said. “This is the year of pastels.”

The perfect spring jacket is something that can make or break an outfit. Try to look for something that can accentuate any outfit while also bringing color and a spring feel. Don’t feel limited to one jacket style, but look for a cardigan, jean jacket or flannel, and definitely feel free to branch out and explore different options and styles. ASOS, Soho Girl and Mango all offer cute pastel-colored jackets.

A jacket or cardigan will add a pop of spring color to an outfit while providing warmth and comfort on those chilly mornings or evenings. Adding color and style can transform an outfit from dull to amazing.
