Chokers, half-up/half-down hair do’s, overalls and jelly sandals all have something in common — they’re all beloved late ’90s and early 2000s trends. But don’t they sound a little too familiar?

That’s because these styles have made a comeback in the last year and a half. What is really great about these styles coming back is that they doesn’t just appeal to a certain type of girl. If you’re the soft-grunge type, then dark plum lipsticks, plaid skirts, flannels, chokers and Dr. Martens are back just for you. If you’re an indie-boho girl, skater dresses, tousled hair and denim jackets are your go to. Grungey-punk girls can wear chokers, jelly sandals, pink hair, scrunchies and halter tops.

You can find these clothes anywhere now — they’re trendy. Bohemian Urban Outfitters, Swindlers — a UA favorite — and ’90s-inspired American Apparelall stock these styles. O Mighty Clothing, or OmWeekend, and Shop Jeen are online stores with the same look in mind — they love to sell cool ’90s-’00s shit.

It may be scary to embrace a new trend with so many different choices and possibilities, but looking at celebrity references like Kylie Jenner:

Or fashion world favorite Alexa Chung:

They’ll inspire you to put together cool outfits that make you seem like a blast from the past. Even closer to home, you can get inspiration from a few people at the UA who have embraced this style.

Hannah Eaton, a psychology freshman, sports baby pink jelly sandals, Calvin Klein high-wasted mom jeans, a cropped shirt and a baseball cap. Total ’90s-girl move.

If your direction is more ’00s, Ashly Lona-Palmer, a senior studying ecology and evolutionary biology and conservative biology, sports a cropped shirt, choker, mini skirt, Keds and a half-up/half-down do. She wears styles from Swindlers, a boutique which embraces new trends all the time.
