The year-long UA Dance Prism Series continues this week with its fourth show of the series, “Color Wheel.” The show features many types of dance.

“Ballet, jazz, modern and ballroom complete the prism that is ‘Color Wheel,’” according to the School of Dance webpage.

“It’s going to be a good show. It’s just a really good variety of dance numbers,” said Jackie Alfheim, a dance junior and performer in “Color Wheel.”

The Prism Series kicked off the UA Dance 2015-2016 season in September with “Jazz in AZ,” and continued with “Premium Blend” and “Here & Now – Student Spotlight.” “Color Wheel” is the first show of the series for this semester. There will only be two more additions for the rest of the year after “Color Wheel.”

“Jump Start Student Spotlight” and “Spring Collection” both premiere in April.

“There will be a piece for everyone, so no matter what your dance taste is there will be something you’ll like,” Alfheim said. “The main piece of the show is called ‘Antique Epigraph’ and it’s by Jerome Robbins.”

Jerome Robbins originally created the piece in 1984 for the New York City Ballet. Helene Alexopoulos, a former dancer for the original New York City Ballet, staged the piece for “Color Wheel.” According to Ballet-Dance Magazine, “Antique Epigraphs” depicts “eight women dressed in gorgeous, earth-toned sheer over-dresses [as] Greek sculptures come to life.”

Other features of “Color Wheel” include “Rockin’ Chair” by Sam Watson, two works by Michael Williams and “Broadway Lights” by Elizabeth George and rehearsal director Melissa Lowe.

“Each piece is very separate,” Alfheim said. “It’s a good blend of different dances that have different elements.”

Fans of dance won’t want to miss this eclectic combination of classic and modern, as the Prism Series continues to unfold on the stage.

“Color Wheel” premieres Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. There will be shows at the same time Thursday and Friday, two shows Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the final performance Sunday at 1:30 p.m. All shows are held at the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre.

Admission prices are $15 for students, $33 for adults and $28 for seniors, military and UA employees. Tickets can be purchased over phone, via fax, or in-person at the Fine Arts box office in the Marroney Theatre, or online here.
