The Associated Students of the University of Arizona held its weekly meeting Wednesday night to discuss ASUA elections, the approval of bylaws, budget cuts and to hear from ASUA Pride Alliance.

The meeting began with roll call and an approval of minutes, followed by a call to the audience. Senators proceeded to open a discussion of the ASUA elections code, but this item was tabled to be discussed at the end of the meeting.

The next item of discussion was the appropriation of bylaws.

Senator Danielle Ledezma discussed the funding for travel funds of members in each UA club. The UA previously funded five students from each club with travel expenses. Funds for the year have been cut by $50,000, however, leaving only $200,000 in budget instead of the previous $250,000.

ASUA approved to fund four people in each UA club for travel, down from the previous five.

Two members from the ASUA Pride Alliance spoke to spread awareness on the acceptance of the LGBTQ community on campus and asked for ASUA members to make an appearance at some events to show that all organizations are aligned.

It also proposed that the UA campus become Safe Zone certified to help the members in the LGBTQ community feel more comfortable on campus. All requests were approved.

ASUA Elections Code was reopened for discussion after the appropriations consent was approved.

Chloe Durand, the ASUA elections commissioner, proposed to amend this item by only requiring perspective presidents and vice presidents of ASUA to acquire signatures prior to the election.

The amendment was approved in hopes of encouraging more students to run for ASUA office, meaning now prospective senators will not be expected to acquire signatures prior to the election.

The meeting proceeded with the approval of committee, senator and treasurer reports and came to a close with the approval of administrative vice president reports, executive vice president reports and the presidents privilege.
