Growing up with syndicated episodes of “Law and Order,” many students may have wondered what it would feel like to shout out, “objection, your honor!” in a courtroom, as a hush fell over the jury.

While the legal field may not appeal to everyone, it does attract a fair amount of interest among undergraduate students.

UA students will have the chance to meet with representatives from law schools across the country on Thursday at UA’s 32nd Annual Law School Information Expo. A group of organizations including the UA’s chapter of Phi Alpha Delta—a co-ed pre-law fraternity—will sponsor the event.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to speak with representatives, deans and admissions officers from different law schools they might be interested in” said Simon Brick, a law senior and the the Law Expo chair for Phi Alpha Delta. “These are also the people who will potentially be looking over your applications if you apply to that school so it’s a tremendous opportunity for UA students who are even considering law school or legal education.”

The expo will bring representatives from over 100 different law schools to the UA, giving students with potential legal interest a chance to network and find out which school(s) most closely align with their needs and legal interests.

Each law school has its own distinctions and areas for specialization, giving students a chance to really explore which school could be best fit.

The expo is part of Pre-Law Week at UA, taking place Monday to Friday this week. The week provides the expo as well as other events such as a personal statement workshop.

The goal of Pre-Law Week is ultimately to help students explore a potential career in law and answer any questions they might have about the process of applying to law school, according to Brick.

Brick and the rest of Phi Alpha Delta are responsible for a large part of making sure the expo runs smooth.

“As Law Expo chair, I was responsible for a lot of the coordination for the event,” Brick said. “Phi Alpha Delta does a lot of things like advertising and outreach throughout the university and the community to try and promote the expo. We’re also responsible for the setting up of the event.”

Brick said that although serving as Law Expo chair has felt stressful at times, it has also been rewarding.

“I already had a little bit of leadership experience within Phi Alpha Delta before taking on this role and I was elected by the membership to take on this responsibility,” Brick said. “I liked getting the experience and having a chance to contribute back to the fraternity as well as to the university.”

The expo takes place Thursday, Oct. 27 from 12-3 p.m., in the Grand Ballroom of the Student Union Memorial Center. Anybody with any legal interest is encouraged to drop by.
