ESPN’s College GameDay in Tucson set the tone for a hostile McKale Center Saturday night

Toilet paper, basketball style Oscar trophies, comedic signs and four grown men talking about college basketball. All items that are the true necessities for ESPN’s College GameDay as the No. 5 UCLA Bruins seek revenge against the No. 4 Arizona Wildcats.

Some may have trickled in from local establishments, a long night of studying or just wanting the best seat in the house. Once it was go-time for fans to enter the arena, the stampede turned into the best and “most engaging” crowd College GameDay has had all year long according to anchor Rece Davis.

The fans already proved to be hostile from the start after SportsCenter showed clips of UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball and booed him as well as chants of “over-rated”. That’s the second time this season Arizona fans chanted overrated at a player that could potentially go No. 1 overall in the upcoming NBA Draft—the first being Washington’s Markelle Fultz.

Then Davis, Jay Bilas, Jay Williams and Seth Greenburg created their own tribute to the Oscars this weekend by hosting the College GameDay awards. One of the categories was “best foreign film” and Lauri Markkanen claimed the award, which was followed by chants of “one more year!”

When it came down to predictions, Greenberg and Williams selected the Bruins to win Saturday. Williams stood up on the scores table, flashed a baby blue jersey and was rained on with toilet paper.

The Wildcats will take on the Bruins Saturday night for a 6:15 p.m. tipoff on ESPN.
