No. 8 Arizona baseball lost 4-0 against No. 6 Cal State-Fullerton in a top-ten matchup on Wednesday night. With the loss, Arizona dropped to 11-3 on the season with all three losses coming away from Hi-Corbett Field.

After scoring 63 runs in a three-game series against Hartford this weekend, Arizona’s offense could not get anything going on Wednesday night. Arizona registered just three hits from Alfonso Rivas, J.J. Matijevic, and Kyle Lewis. Arizona’s batters struck out seven times and could not find an offensive rhythm against Fullerton.

Rio Gomez got the start on Tuesday and pitched 3.2 innings for Arizona. Gomez struck out six, allowed four hits, walked two batters and allowed two earned runs. Gomez dropped to 2-2 on the season in the loss. Arizona Coach Jay Johnson tried five different pitchers over the course of the game after taking out Gomez in the fourth. Luke Soroko relieved Gomez and then Arizona put in Randy Labaut, Landon Faulkner Alfonso Rivas and Tylor Megill against the Titans.

Fullerton catcher Chris Hudgins led the Titans attack as he registered two hits and two runs. First baseman Dillon Persinger and left fielder Chris Prescott scored the other two runs for the Titans. Right fielder Huntser Culler also contributed to Fullerton’s offense with two hits and two runs batted in.

This is the second time this season Arizona has been shutout as the Wildcats were also shutout in a 1-0 loss to Nebraska.

In Arizona’s three losses, the Wildcats have scored a combined one run, compared to the Wildcats 166 runs in 11 wins.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday and open up Pac-12 play with a three-game series in Los Angeles where they take on the UCLA Bruins.
