Arizona forward Charlotte Brascia (10) attempts to move past Texas Tech defender Brooke Denesik (3) during the UA-Texas Tech game on Sept. 10.

The Arizona Wildcats soccer team scored their first goal at home this season and got their first win at Mulcahy Stadium on Sunday after beating Texas Tech 1-0.

Arizona has been starving for a goal and finally got one in the 87’ when defender Samantha Falasco was able to connect off a Cali Crisler corner kick. The Wildcats have had the misfortune of not being able to get the ball in the net since their match against Boston University in Tempe back on Sept. 3.

It took the Wildcats 357 minutes to score a goal at home and a span of three games to get a victory at Mulcahy. In what was a battle for both sides forward Charlotte Brascia, was just relieved to see the ball go in.

“We were doing everything right in the game, there was nothing wrong with the game plan but we couldn’t score,” Brascia said. “To see we finally scored it was just like…thank god.”

Coming off a 1-0 loss on Friday to Florida Gulf Coast, head coach Tony Amato was pleased the way his team played overall this weekend splitting 1-1 at home in the Wildcat Classic.

“We played really well this weekend,” Amato said. “It was just that final piece that we needed to break through and score some goals.”

After a win like tonight you would think all is good for Arizona, not necessarily. Leading scorer Gabi Stoian, went down in the 58’ with a hamstring injury. The severity of her injury is still in the air.

“Looks like she tweaked a hammy, we’ll just have to keep an eye on that,” Amato said.

Going forward Arizona will have to step up as a unit if Stoian is sidelined for a large amount of time.

“We’re going to need some other people to step up including myself,” Brascia said. “As a team we’re gonna have to fill that in, hopefully she comes back soon, we really need her.”

Arizona (2-2-2) will be back on the pitch Friday Sept.15, at 7 p.m. to face BYU (0-3-3) at Mulcahy Stadium. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
