Arizona men’s golf hits the road again for the third time in four weeks to compete in the Tavistock Invitational. This week’s tournament will take place at the Isleworth County Club in Windermere, Fla. Teams will compete in three rounds of play over the course of three days starting on Sunday, Oct. 22 and finishing Tuesday, Oct. 24. So far this season the ‘Cats have played in two tournaments, one in New Mexico, one in Oregon and now after a week off head to Florida. Head coach Jim Anderson talked to Arizona Athletics about the team’s schedule so far.

“The Tavistock Invitational is another top collegiate event. Our schedule is among the best in the country and this week will be our opportunity to travel East competing with some teams we may only see in the postseason,” Anderson said.

A challenge that golf deals with each match is the weather and traveling to a city with the word “wind” in its name could give athletes a run for their money. Currently Windermere shows a chance of lighting storms with a high of 87 and 86 on Sunday and Monday.

Competing for the Wildcats this week are senior George Cunningham, sophomore Brad Reeves, sophomore David Laskin, freshman Trevor Werbylo, and junior Dylan Stein. The five-man team will square up against 16 other teams including No. 5 ranked Florida, No. 10 Texas Tech and No. 12 Vanderbilt. Most notably Arizona will face in state rival Arizona State for the first time this season.

“Our preparation has been great leading up to the event. I am very confident in this group’s ability and we believe this can be our best tournament to date. The greens will be fast like New Mexico and our good ball striking will be rewarded,” Anderson said.

Cunningham and Laskin competed last year at the Tavistock Invitational making them the only players from the Wildcats to compete in this event in the past. The team made a slight change in the five-man roster placing junior Dylan Stein back on the travel team in place for Travis Fredborg.

Round one tee times for the Wildcats is set for Sunday, Oct. 22 with Dylan Stein leading the ‘Cats off at 8:55 a.m. EST and George Cunningham teeing off last for Arizona at 9:35 a.m. EST.
