Buffaloes stampede over Wildcats, 3-0

After upsetting the then No. 16 Oregon Ducks last weekend, the Arizona Volleyball team came out flat and were swept by the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder, 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19).

Colorado took set one, 25-20 as the Buffaloes jumped out to an early 5-1 lead over the Wildcats and never looked back. Arizona was able to bring the set to a tie during the set, but the Buffaloes strong offensive hitting led them to take the set.

The Buffs carried their momentum from the first set over to the second, winning it 25-18. The set was very close and competitive, up until Colorado went on 4-0 run put them in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the set.

Colorado was able to complete the sweep in the third set upsetting the Wildcats, 25-19.

Arizona lacked defense and was unable to block the Buff. Hitting lacked for the ‘Cats, junior outside hitters Kendra Dahlke and Tyler Spriggs lead the team with seven kills each, with Dahlke adding four digs. Starting at setter, sophomore Julia Patterson, was out of the game giving junior setter Mackenzie Hernandez, who transferred to Arizona this season from Bakersfield College, the start. Hernandez finished the match with 21 assists and five digs.

For the Buffs, junior outside hitter Alexa Smith finished with 12 kills, while also tallying seven digs and two total blocks. Freshman setter/libero Brynna Deluzio posted 33 assists and six digs.

The match marked the Wildcats seventh time they've been swept during the regular season. 

It’s a very quick turnaround for the Wildcats as they look to bounce back as they take on Utah Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City.
