Fall semester 2018: Important Dates
With a busy semester ahead, sometimes it's easier to just follow the calendar. Above are the major events for the upcoming Fall 2018 semester. Information compiled by Eddie Celaya, graphic by Lindsey Otto.
Sure, it's summer now. But before you know it, temperatures will cool down — well, maybe not 'cool' down, but still. In anticipation, here is a calendar of all the big events happening in and around campus come August.
1. Move In Days Aug. 15-18
For students planning to move in Aug. 15, there is a $55 move-in fee. Any students wishing to move in after 7 p.m. on Aug. 18, please notify the Housing office at (520) 621-6501 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or you could risk having your application for housing canceled.
2. Classes Begin Aug. 20
The 2018-2019 school year kicks off on this date for 16-week courses. Start dates for seven- and five-week courses vary, depending on the class.
3. Family Weekend 2018 Oct. 5-7
Mom and dad have their own weekend set aside, with a meet-and-greet with President Dr. Robert Robbins scheduled for Friday, and the football game against Pac-12 rival California on Saturday.
4. Homecoming 2018 Oct. 21-27
While the football game against Oregon on Saturday may get all the attention, festivities actually kick off the Sunday before with the lighting of the 'A' on A-Mountain. There will be an A-Mountain Lighting Ceremony at 5:30 on the top floor of the Main Gate Garage.
5. All Souls Procession Nov. 2-4
Not quite Dia de Los Muertos or Halloween, this uniquely Tucson event features an almost three-mile-long procession of elaborate floats and decorations through some of Southern Arizona’s oldest and most historical neighborhoods.
6. Thanksgiving Break Nov. 22-25
Students return home for a long weekend of food, fun and studying for upcoming finals. Or more food.
7. Final Exams Dec. 7-13
With Reading Day, better known as Dead Day, falling the day before this week-long struggle, make sure to get any pre-test shenanigans out of the way early, or you could oversleep and miss that 9 a.m. o-chem final.
8. Winter Break Dec. 14 to Jan. 9
After spending 72 straight hours studying to ace that last final, nearly a month of recovery time awaits.
