Future Wildcat Stanley Johnson named to USA Nike Hoop Summit roster

Arizona basketball 2014 signee Stanley Johnson was selected for the United States Nike Hoop Summit roster Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot-7 Southern California high school senior was one of 10 players chosen to represent the U.S. in the exhibition game held at Portland’s Rose Quarter in the Moda Center on April 12.

The Nike Hoop Summit, which began in 1995, is an annual game between the best high school basketball players from the United States and the top players 19 years old or younger from around the world.

NBA teams have drafted 140 former U.S. and World Select team members. The event’s website claims to have 67 former United States and 19 former World Select team players to be active in the NBA.

Last year’s Nike Hoop Summit featured current Wildcats Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Aaron Gordon. Hollis-Jefferson finished the game with 17 points and six rebounds while Gordon compiled nine points and one rebound.

Along with Johnson, this year’s American team, which will be coached by the Under-17 U.S. coach Mike Jones, has eight other recruits who have committed to a university — three of whom have committed to play at Duke next school year. The only one not to commit yet is 6-foot-11 center Myles Turner from Bedford, Texas. Turner has received an offer from Arizona but has yet to make an official visit to Tucson.

The World Select roster has not been announced yet.

The U.S. leads the all time series 11-5. However, World Select has won the previous two games.
