The United States Basketball Writers Association named Arizona basketball players Nick Johnson and Aaron Gordon to the Oscar Robertson Trophy midseason watch list on Thursday.
There are 23 college basketball players named to the watch list, and the two Wildcats are the only players from the Pac-12 Conference. The ACC has the most players on the watch list with five.
Johnson was not named to the preseason watch list but has worked his way into both the midseason Oscar Robertson and John R. Wooden award.
Following Thursday’s game, the 6-foot-3 junior averaged a team leading 16.3 points per game. He is also regarded as one of the best defensive guards in the country and is the only junior on the watch list.
Gordon, just one of six freshmen on the Oscar Robinson mid season watch list, is also a member of the John R. Wooden award watch list. His 7.8 rebounds per game is the highest average for all Arizona and Pac-12 freshmen.
The Oscar Robertson award is the oldest award in college basketball and the only one named after a former player. The winner will be announced on April 14 at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards.
