For the second time this season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association named a Wildcat the Men’s National Athlete of the Week.
Wildcat senior Lawi Lalang’s collegiate record-setting Wannamaker Mile time of 3:52.88 on Saturday earned him that title. Lalang’s record setting time beat his previous school record Wannamaker Mile time of 3:54.56, which he set last year.
Lalang now owns three of the five fastest indoor mile times in collegiate history.
“Amongst all those great and accomplished runners, he was able to do that,” said associate head coach James Li in a press release. “This is a big step forward for him. To be able to go in there and take charge, it was great; it was a great day.”
Lalang currently has the top collegiate times in the mile and 3K for this season.
