Prisoner Strike Solidarity Protest

Protestors in solidarity of the nationwide protests regarding the treatment of prison inmates in the U.S. gathered across the street from the Ronstadt Transit Center in downtown Tucson on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016. The protestors were joined by an unnamed group of anarchists which led the protest on short marches throughout downtown, walking in Congress Street, 5th Avenue, Broadway Boulevard and 6th Avenue against Tucson Police officers' instructions until confined to sidewalks under threat of arrest. Once confined to the sidewalk, the protest continued down 6th Avenue to Toole Avenue and returned to the Ronstadt Transit Center via Congress Street. Along the routes, anarchists threw traffic cones and signs to the ground and were pushed by police officers on multiple occasions after disobeying their instructions during the otherwise peaceful demonstration. Passerby had mixed reactions to the the face masks worn by some demonstrators and sentiments they chanted ranging from slogans like "Who's streets? Our Streets!" to "Fuck the police!" Some drivers honked in appreciation and other pedestrians crossed the street to avoid the group. At its height, the event attracted 60-70 people and tapered off to 30-40 people at its conclusion. Unless noted in the caption, all persons pictured declined to give their names.
