Ashtray

A non-UA affiliated man was arrested in the courtyard of Coronado Residence Hall on Jan. 28 at 4:15 a.m. for possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant from the Tucson Police Department.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was patrolling Euclid Avenue and noticed a man with a flashlight near the bike racks in the courtyard of Coronado. As the officer approached the man he saw him was picking cigarettes out of ashtrays.

The officer made contact with the man, who identified himself. The officer told him he couldn’t go through dumpsters or ashtrays on UA property. The officer then performed a records check and found that the man had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from the TPD.

The officer handcuffed the man, and asked him if he was carrying anything the officer should know about. The man said he had a marijuana pipe. The officer searched him and found a pipe with marijuana residue, in the man’s jacket pocket. The pipe was placed into evidence.

The man was then transported to Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked for the TPD warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hot dog break

A window was broken in a hot dog stand near the Nugent building on Jan. 28 at 7:26 p.m.

A UAPD officer was dispatched to the hot dog stand, owned by Common Grounds Espresso Co., after reports of a broken window. The officer located the broken window, which was part of a refrigerator door. The window was double paned, both of which were shattered, and had an insulating sheet that was found across the counter. The officer noticed no latent fingerprints or trace evidence.

The officer interviewed two witnesses, who said they saw two male subjects at the hot dog stand.

The first was a short white male with long black hair. The witnesses said he punched the window and shattered both panes, then ripped out the insulating sheet and threw it, but did not take any items. He then ran westbound with the second subject, a tall, husky white male. The second subject did not damage anything, but accompanied the first subject.

Staff from the Student Union Memorial Center arrived to secure the food products from the stand for temporary storage. The general maintenance mechanic on duty arrived, unplugged the broken machine and put caution tape around it, due to the broken glass. The officer took photographs of the damage, which were placed in evidence.
