Police Beat: October 27

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was working security at a date dash in front of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority on Oct. 17 when he observed a woman wearing a green plastic construction helmet with two beer cans attached to each side.

There were straws coming out of the cans that went toward the female student’s mouth. The officer contacted the woman and asked if he could speak with her, to which she said, “Yes.”

The officer asked for the female student’s age, and she replied, “19.” The officer then proceeded to ask the woman if she knew why he wanted to talk to her, and she said she did not know. The officer informed her of the beer can helmet she was wearing, and she appeared surprised, as if she forgot she was wearing it.

The woman had red watery eyes and a moderate odor of intoxicants on her breath. She stated she only consumed the two beer cans that were on her head, which were empty when she took off the helmet.

The female student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for minor in possession of alcohol in body.

Don’t be our guest! Don’t be our guest!

Two UAPD officers were dispatched to Coronado Residence Hall on Oct. 19 in reference to an unwanted man causing a public disturbance.

Upon arrival, the non-UA affiliated individual was already speaking to another police officer. A resident assistant informed the UAPD officers that the man was a registered guest at the dorm and was being very loud.

A woman, who was accompanying the man in the lobby, told the officers he was her guest. She said he had become belligerent and loud throughout the course of the night, so she kicked him out of the room; he then started yelling and causing a disturbance.

She contacted an RA, who, along with the female student and other residents, asked the man to leave the dorm three or four times, to which he said he would not because his backpack and laptop were still in the room. The RA asked the man to leave one last time, and the man said he would punch him and started walking toward him. The RA retreated, and a couple of girls held the man back from advancing toward him.

The officer noticed the man was leaning up against a counter in the lobby, and had a distinct sway from side-to-side and front-to-back. The man also had red watery eyes, slurred speech, depressed motor skills and a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his breath. The man denied consuming alcohol and made little sense during his conversation with the officer, often giving answers to questions the officer did not ask.

He was arrested for criminal trespassing in the third degree and for minor in possession of alcohol in body.
