    Police Beat: Oct. 24

Pair paying the price for not wanting to pay the price

A University of Arizona Police Department officer went to the UofA Bookstore at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 in response to shoplifters in custody. The officer met with an employee who said he had observed two men on the video camera shoplift from the store. He said he saw one of the men place a keyboard protector in his backpack and the other put a pair of headphones in his pocket. Both men left the store without paying and were approached by bookstore security outside. The officer spoke to the first man. He said he went to the bookstore to buy a folder but then saw a keyboard cover he liked that he didn’t want to pay for, so he put it in his backpack. The officer then spoke to the other man, who said he wanted some headphones but did not want to pay for them. The man told the officer he had money to pay for them, but he was just stupid. The two incidents were unrelated. Both men were cited and released for shoplifting.
