Golfer rises to No.1 in US after wins

After back-to-back tournament wins, Arizona freshman Manon Gidali rose to No. 1 in’s collegiate rankings on Tuesday.

Gidali has won both tournaments she’s played in — including a 12-under-par 204 at the Wildcat Invitational, which broke Lorena Ochoa’s previous school best of 10-under-par for a 54-hole tournament. Gidali’s two lowest rounds of the tournament, 66 and 67, are the second- and sixth-best scores all-time at Arizona.

Gidali, a native of Paris, has an average of 70.33 this season and has played five of six rounds at or below par.

Arizona seniors Isabelle Boineau and Margarita Ramos are ranked No. 32 and No. 55, respectively. The Wildcats are ranked No. 15 in the country and won the Wildcat Invitational at 13-under-par — breaking the previous school best of 10-under-par.

The Wildcats will continue their season in California at the Battle of Rancho Bernardo, which spans March 18 through 20.
