Police Beat: October 16

Secret stash

Two UA students were arrested for minor in possession of alcohol in the body.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers responded to the Villa del Puente Residence Hall on Sunday at 1:21 a.m. to follow up on a narcotics call from the previous day regarding a smell of marijuana. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with the resident assistant on duty, who escorted them to the room.

Upon arriving at the room, two residents answered the door. The officers could smell a moderate odor of intoxicants coming from both residents’ breaths. Both admitted to drinking earlier in the evening.

When the officers began speaking with the residents about the incident from the night before, they noticed two open cans of Coors Light beer on the desk. When asked about the marijuana smell, the residents told the officers they smoke occasionally but hadn’t smoked that day and had never smoked in the room. They said they believed that the marijuana smell in their room came from their neighbors’ friends visiting.

They also told the officers they drank the Coors Light before the football game and had no more alcohol in the room.

The officers asked them again if there was any more alcohol in the room. The students then gave the officers a bottle of vodka that was in their closet, as well as a 12-pack of beer and eight to 10 bottles of beer from their mini fridges.

The residents were instructed to dump the alcohol into their sink.

Both students were arrested, cited and released on the scene, and a code of conduct citation was sent to the Dean of Students Office.

Cock-a-doodle-don’t

A UAPD officer was dispatched to the Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall on Sunday at 2:40 a.m. in reference to a man following two female UA students into their residence hall.

The officer made contact with the students, who told the officer that, while they were walking home, a man was following them closely. Before the students reached the dorm, the man ran up to them and said, “Hey, my name is Sage.”

Someone from inside had opened the door for the students, but the man grabbed the door and was able to get inside the dorm.

The two students began walking up the stairs to the second floor, and when they turned back to see if the man was still following them, they noticed that his pants were torn and his penis was exposed.

The two students walked to their floor and into the bathroom, and the man continued to follow them.

They then ran into their room and closed the door.

The officer made contact with the man, who told the officer he was going to visit a friend in the dorm, but he did not have a name or room number.

The man was arrested for criminal trespassing in the second degree and transported to the Pima County Jail.
