Follow your nose

A resident assistant at Manzanita-Mohave residence hall called the University of Arizona Police Department to report the smell of marijuana coming from a UA student’s room on the fifth floor.

UAPD officers went to the room and knocked on the door. When the resident opened the door, the smell grew stronger. The officer asked if he could come in and talk about the smell, and the resident said yes.

The resident said there was no marijuana in the room at the time because he had smoked it all earlier. The officer began searching and found a clear Tupperware container in the desk drawer of the resident that contained a smoking pipe and a scented dryer sheet. He then found another clear Tupperware container that had marijuana residue in it.

The resident admitted that the items were his and displayed symptoms of marijuana use at the time.

The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of drug paraphernalia.

We’re not in California anymore

A UAPD officer was dispatched to the Parking and Transportation Services building at around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 in response to a report of two UA students climbing onto the rooftop of the Sixth Street Parking Garage.

A PTS employee reported two men climbing over the locked gate and said they were on the roof of the building. The officer called a second officer for assistance, and they went to the roof of the garage where they immediately smelled marijuana.

The officers looked around on the roof and found three male UA students, one of whom was smoking marijuana out of a multicolored pipe. The officers also found a plastic baggie with a grinder and an empty plastic container. One of the students immediately handed officers his medical marijuana card from California and claimed he had purchased his marijuana in California.

Two of the three students were released and charged with possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and the third was charged with second degree criminal trespassing, since he did not have any drug paraphernalia and was not smoking marijuana but was seen climbing around the locked gate to access the roof.

The remaining paraphernalia and marijuana were collected and entered into UAPD evidence.
