Beer Snatchers

Two non-UA affiliated individuals were seen stealing alcohol on Jan. 26 from the Circle K gas station at 1610 E. 6th St.

According to a witness, one man was white, approximately 35 years old, 6 feet tall and thin. He was allegedly wearing a brown cowboy hat with a jacket, black jeans and a dark backpack and had an earring in his nose. The other man was described as Hispanic, approximately 45 years old, 5 feet and 8 inches tall, heavyset and wearing a baseball cap with a dark backpack. 

A University of Arizona Police Department officer saw two men matching their descriptions while driving east on University Boulevard. 

Two officers went to the bus stop where the men were spotted. They both identified themselves, and the officers informed them why they were stopped and asked if they had any alcohol in their possession. 

The men denied having any alcohol and one claimed that he had not drank all day. They were then informed that UAPD officers were at the Circle K viewing the security camera footage. 

One officer transported two Circle K employees who witnessed the men to the police station to identify them. The men were positively identified as the two individuals who stole the alcohol. 

One suspect admitted to taking a six pack of Budweiser out of the cooler. He also claimed there was a beer missing, so he grabbed the five remaining beers and stuck them in his backpack. The beers were later returned to the Circle K. 

The two men were cited and released for shoplifting. The security camera footage was placed into property and evidence. 

I Spy

A UA student called a UAPD officer about a suspicious phone call she received in her dorm on Jan. 26 at approximately 1:32 p.m. 

The UAPD officer met with the student in the dorm lobby. She said that she received a call from an unknown person who sounded like a male with a scratchy voice. 

“I can see you in your room,” the suspect said, according to the statement. “You look very cute in your pink panties.”

The student said she received the call while she was changing her clothes, and that she did have pink underwear on. She said she hung up the phone immediately. 

The student escorted the officer back to her dorm room where she received the call. She pointed to the location she was standing when the phone call came. The location was in the center of the room away from her window, and her blinds were partially closed.

According to the officer, this would make it difficult for someone to peep through the window from ground level or see her from the windows at the Science-Engineering Library. 

The student claimed there might be a hidden camera inside the room. She and the officer checked for a hidden camera but didn’t find one. The caller ID on the student’s cell phone was blank, too. 

The student told the officer that this was the first time she had received a call like this and that she just wanted it documented. 

The officer advised her to call UAPD if she received any further phone calls. The resident assistant was notified of the call, and she contacted the community director to reference the incident.
