Can’t stop, won’t stop

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was notified of a non-UA-affiliated individual in a 2015 gray Kia failing to stop at a stop sign at Second Street and Park Avenue on Jan. 26 at approximately 8:33 a.m.

The officer activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle in traffic. The car made a right turn on Second Street and proceeded east to Olive Road before stopping.

The officer advised the driver why she was stopped and asked for her license, registration and proof of insurance. A check on the driver’s license revealed that it was suspended.

She was cited and released for driving under a suspended license and for failing to stop at a stop sign. Her vehicle was impounded.

Tucson Wrecker Pool towed the car, and the traffic stop was recorded on an L3 camera.

Shower threats

A UA student contacted UAPD about threats she was receiving while in the shower at Posada San Pedro Residence Hall on 601 N. Highland Ave. on Jan. 27 at approximately 11:15 p.m.

The UAPD officer that responded to the call initially made contact with the resident assistant in the building.

The RA said that he was told by a female tenant that she heard another tenant being threatened inside the shower. The threat was made during quiet time by one of the girls living in Room 337.

Some girls were in the shower singing on the third floor when another girl came into the bathroom, opened the shower door and told them to keep it down, since she was sleeping.

The tenant heard one of the girls saying, “Quiet, or I’ll beat your ass.” She told the officer that she did not see the incident take place and just heard it from inside her dorm room.

According to the report, she did not want to press the issue because of fear of retaliation from the girls in Room 337.

The officer had no luck locating the girl who was threatened but received word that the students in Room 337 were loud and disturbing. The officer was aware that this room doesn’t cooperate well with the police due to prior contacts.

The officer went to the room and spoke with the girls, who were uncooperative at first and dodged questions. The girls claimed they were talking with each other inside of the shower room and that there weren’t any threats being made.

They admitted to being loud and playing music inside the room and agreed to lower their music and not be loud during quiet hours.

The officer advised them that tenants on the third floor were afraid of them, and they couldn’t understand why.

It was determined that no criminal acts were committed. They said they would cooperate with UAPD and RAs in the future.
