Hell on wheels

A University of Arizona Police Department officer noticed a man riding a bicycle through a private parking lot and looking into cars on Feb. 14 at approximately 9:30 p.m at the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority house.

The non-UA affiliated man was standing near the bike racks of the sorority house and, upon seeing the officer pulling into the lot, rode a green 21-speed bike with a basket on the front away from the racks.

After the officer stopped him, he claimed he had parked his girlfriend’s bike there in the morning before going to the hospital for a staph infection on his hand. He claimed to have parked there because it was safer than the hospital and had returned to pick up the bike. 

The individual said he was homeless and living on the streets near Fort Lowell Road. The bike did not appear to be stolen, and there were no locks in the bike rack area. 

The officer went to speak with a sorority member who said the bike belonged to a girl who lived in the house. She said the bike was always secured to the bike rack.

The sorority house mother came out and spoke to the officer, saying she did not want the man on the property again. 

The man was cited and released for theft. He was served with a UA Exclusionary Order, photographed and told not to enter the sorority house’s property again.

The bike was placed into UA Property and Evidence. The house mother told the officer she would have the owner come pick it up at the station. 

Slurrin’ and swayin’

A UA student was observed swaying outside Posada San Pedro Residence Hall on Feb. 13 at approximately 1:18 a.m. 

Two UAPD officers were working a Residence Life deployment when they saw two men walking on the sidewalk in front of the residence hall. 

One man reached the door of Posada San Pedro and started scanning his iPhone over the CatCard reader to gain entrance into the building. 

According to the officer, the man had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his breath, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery.

One officer asked how much the man had to drink, and he replied in a slurred voice that he had drank four beers.

The two men said they were coming from an apartment at the Hub at Tucson. The other man and the officers took the drunken man to his room. The sober student said he would look after the other student for the rest of the night. 

The drunk student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for a minor in possession of spirituous liquor.
