Women’s cross country finish in 14th place at NCAA West Regionals

The Arizona women’s cross-country team competed in the NCAA West Regional this past Friday, earning 14th place overall in the competition. 

The men’s team did not compete as a whole, but instead had three runners representing them in the competition. The meet took place at the Jefferson Golf Club in Seattle. 

The women’s team ran in the 6K race and the three men’s team’s runners competed in the 10K race.
Competing for the women were Addi Zerrenner, Claire Green, Molly Callahan, Kayla Ferron, Kirsten Vergara, Kate Penney and McKenna Gaffney. 

The three men’s runners were Sam Willis, Collins Kibet and Patrick Leary. 

Zerrenner led the women’s team to a 14th-place finish out of 35 competing schools with a time of 21:20.0 placing in 30th. 

The women’s squad accumulated a total of 354 points. 

Finishing after Zerrenner was Green, who placed in 41st with a time of 21:28.4. Callahan came in right after Green in 43rd place, running a time of 21:29.0. Ferron finished in 84th with a time of 22:12.2. 

Finishing with a time of 23:04.9 and earning a 161st place finish was Vergara. 

Penney ran a time of 23:29.4, finishing in 187th place. Rounding out the Arizona finishers was Gaffney, who finished in 217th with a time of 24:05.7. 

For the men’s runners, Willis led the way, finishing in 81st with a time of 32:42.3. Kibet ran a time of 33:02.8, earning himself a 94th place finish. Leary, the other men’s runner, finished in 147th with a time of 34:12.3. 

The Wildcats’ last meet of the season will be the NCAA Championships. The meet will take place Nov. 21 in Louisville, Kentucky.
