The University of Arizona gymnastics team is getting ready to open the 2018 season against Denver on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 4 p.m. in McKale Center. The Wildcats will hit the floor with new talent, skills and mentality under new interim head coach John Court.

Court took the place of Tabitha Yim who accepted a head coach position at Stanford University after the GymCats 2016-17 season. Court was a logical choice after being an assistant coach for the Wildcats for 19 years.

During the 2016-17 season, the GymCats had season and career highs from all events including Victoria Ortiz who earned a career high of 9.950 on the uneven bars. Madison Cindric also hit a season high all-around score of 39.325 after coming back from a foot injury that left her out for five consecutive weeks.

Last season the Wildcats struggled and were inconsistent when competing on the balance beam, but still hit season high of 49.300 when competing at UCLA.

Arizona returned 11 GymCats and welcomed in four new freshman for the 2018 season. Court and the GymCats main goal for the season is to aim for high scores and focus on personal and team goals.
