Irreplaceable, spontaneous and supportive are the words to describe Arizona gymnasts Kennady Schneider and Victoria Ortiz’s friendship.

The two seniors are seen side-by-side during meets supporting one another and have been doing so since they became GymCats. As freshman Ortiz and Schneider were able to make an impact on the team as strong competitors, but the two weren’t very close their freshman year. Slowly getting to know each other they eventually grew a friendship leading them to be inseparable.

Both Schneider and Ortiz have accomplished many things together through their time at Arizona with season and career highs, but during the 2017 season the gymnasts received Pac-12 All-Conference together.

Ortiz was awarded Pac-12 All-Conference on the uneven bars where she was ranked No. 6 in the Pac-12 and Schneider was awarded Pac-12 All-Conference on floor where she was ranked No.8.

“That was probably my favorite memory and to share that with her [Victoria] was a once and a lifetime experience,” Schneider said. “You’re happy for yourself, but to see your best friend who has been working so hard to accomplish something so amazing as well is amazing.”

In their last year competing together as GymCats they embrace every moment and continue to support each other on and off the mat.

Schneider and Ortiz will be heading to California along with the rest of the GymCats to take on the Cal Bears on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m.
