Arizona women’s swim and dive team finishes in top-25 at NCAA Championships

After the final day of competition in North Carolina, the Arizona women’s swimming and diving team finished No. 25 at the NCAA National Championships on March 17-20 at Greensboro Aquatic Center with a final point total of 34.5. 

The five Wildcats representing the University of Arizona were divers Gracie Sleeman and Delaney Schnell, and swimmers Molly Batchelor, Aria Bernal and Amalie Mortenson. 

Thursday, March 18

The second day of competition was the 500-yard freestyle final and the one-meter diving final. The 500-yard freestyle featured both Batchelor and Mortensen. Mortensen finished No. 14 in preliminaries with a time of 4:48.17 and Batchelor finished No. 52 in preliminaries with a time of 4:53.44. Schnell placed fourth in the championship final for the one-meter diving with a score of 334.45.

Friday, March 19

The third day of competition was the 100-yard backstroke final, the 200-yard freestyle final and the three-meter diving final. Bernal finished tied for No. 27 in preliminaries with a time of 52.98 in the 100-yard backstroke. Mortensen finished tied for No. 14 in the consolation final with a time of 1:45.74 in the 200-yard freestyle. 



Sleeman finished 45th in preliminaries with a score of 235.20. Mortensen earned an All-American honorable mention for her performance in the 200-yard freestyle. 

After day three, Arizona was ranked No. 24 in the competition with a point total of 17.5.

Saturday, March 20

On the last day of competition, Schnell participated in the platform diving final. Schnell finished second in the championship final with a score of 331.80. Schnell accounted for 32 out of the total 34.5 points Arizona earned during the National Championships.
